While many enjoy the freedom that comes along with riding your motorcycle, it’s important to remember that this freedom does come at a risk.  The open road can be dangerous, and riders face the threat of damage and injury.  Therefore, it is so important to make sure that you are taking all the necessary precautions before you ride.

One of the most important things you can do to protect yourself and those around you is by having proper or motorcycle insurance in place.  Looking for the right coverages to address your unique insurance needs?  Then turn to the experts at PowerSports Insurance Agency.  We have a wide variety of coverage options to keep you safe.

Basic Motorcycle Insurance

Liability Coverage: All policies include some level of liability insurance. This type of insurance covers any third-party injuries or property damage that you might cause as a result of an accident.

Comprehensive Coverage: This type of insurance provides coverage for sudden and accidental losses to your motorcycle that are not the result of a collision. For instance, comprehensive coverage will protect against the damages caused by fire, theft, vandalism, striking a bird or animal, major weather events, and so on.

Collision Coverage: Collisions are the most common cause of damage and losses. Collision insurance will ensure that you have the necessary coverage to repair or replace your motorcycle following a collision. Collision is colliding with another vehicle or object as well as overturn or upset.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage is protection related to injuries received as a result of an uninsured, negligent driver. An uninsured driver is someone who did not have any insurance, had insurance that did not meet state-mandated minimum liability requirements, or whose insurance company denied their claim or was not financially able to pay it. A hit and run driver also count as uninsured as it relates to bodily injury.

Underinsured Motorist Coverage is protection related to injuries received from an accident where the other driver is at fault and has coverage limits too low to cover your expenses. Underinsured drivers usually purchase only the minimum coverage required by law, which in some states isn’t much. For example, California only requires drivers to carry $15,000 per person and $30,000 per incident of bodily injury liability coverage. If a driver with low coverage limits causes you to sustain a serious injury it is possible that the available insurance benefit won’t pay all your medical expenses. This is the definition of an “underinsured” driver.

Medical Payments covers injury to individuals riding in the vehicle regardless of who caused the accident. The same coverage limits will apply to all vehicles on the policy.

Accessory Coverage provides protection for additions, enhancements, or modifications to the vehicle that are not factory installed. This can include: Electronic equipment, sidecars, trailers, trike conversion kits, custom paint, plating or exhaust or mower blades.

In most cases comprehensive coverage is required prior to adding accessory coverage and comprehensive/collision deductibles apply.
